PARKING GATE CONTROL

Versatech does not install parking gates or motors but we do provide a range of access technologies for controlling access to parking garages, vehicle compounds, private roads and other areas controlled by electronic gates. Gate installation companies offer basic clicker systems but, these have limited programming capabilities and can be difficult to manage. They do not normally have advanced scheduling features to dynamically control automatic opening and user access restriction. It’s difficult to add and delete clickers from these systems or run event reports to track user activity.

Connecting your parking gate to a professional access control system from Versatech creates a range of options for gate control, improves system management, and enhances security. Your gate can now be programmed through a simple software interface on or off-site, each user’s access can be individually controlled, and activity reports can easily be created. Your parking gate can now be fully integrated with the building’s access control system and a range of access credentials can be used for gate control.

 Parking Gate Credential Options

Standard Card Readers and Fobs – A card reader can be installed outside the parking gate on a pedestal or wall, and standard access cards or fobs used to unlock the gate. The main advantage of this option is low cost while potentials disadvantages include challenges finding a suitable reader mounting location, and forcing drivers to reach out of their window (or exit the vehicle) to present their credential.

Wireless Clickers – A wireless clicker can be used to open a gate without having to roll down a window or exit the vehicle. Versatech provides wireless clickers in single button, or multi-button configurations (where multiple gates are located close together). While a wireless clicker system has the lowest installation cost, the clickers can be more expensive than other credentials.

Vehicle Tags – Vehicle tag readers such as the Upass line from Nedap use long range proximity technology to read a small tag adhered to your windshield or headlight from up to 30’ away. With the tag fixed to your vehicle you simply drive up the gate and it automatically opens. It’s also possible to hang the tag from a rearview mirror so it can easily be moved from vehicle to vehicle. As with other credentials each tag is uniquely identified by the access system allowing full control and identification of each vehicle. Installing a tag reader is more expensive than other options but the tags cost less than clickers, are very convenient for drivers, and integrate easily with any access control systems.

License Plate Recognition (LPR) - The most recent innovation in gate control is the use of License Plate Recognition (LPR) analytic software running on Axis Communications cameras. Using a web browser interface, license plate numbers are programmed into the camera identifying who can access the gate. Authorized drivers simply need to pull up to the gate and it will open. This does require a little more programming than other gate credential systems but can be uniquely suited to certain circumstances, for example when a vehicle compound is controlled from a remote location making it hard to distribute physical credentials, or when guests or delivery drivers who do not require regular access need to be admitted. In these cases an LPR camera can be installed alongside more traditional gate credential readers. An advantage to LPR cameras is that they can also act as a standard video surveillance camera, connecting to your video management system and recording images of valid entries, accidental gate damage, vandalism, or intrusion.
